  • Monocrystalline solar panels are made from a single large crystal of silicon and ahve a mosaic pattern. Manufacturing of these panels is more difficult, having to undergo the Czochralski process used to manufacture monocrystalline long bar. Before cutting the required board cells, the cylindrical rods must be adjusted to show a square section.
    Unlike polycrystalline panels, monocrystalline panels have a uniform surface and the same color. Due to using a very pure single crystal, these panels are more expensive but more efficient.
    These types of solar panels are the most efficient in absorbing sunlight and converting it into electricity. Monocrystalline panels face the best in lower light conditions when other types of solar panels are inefficient.

    - Advantages of monocrystalline solar panels
    • The highest yield -between 15-20%, which is created because the use of a pure silicon. The performance of these types of panels remains almost constant throughout life;
    • In the diffuse light, monocrystalline panels have a higher energy yield than other cell types;
    • In terms of space available to install, monocrystalline panels are the best option, installed capacity is greater than the solar polycrystalline or amorphous solar panels.
    • Monocrystalline panels have a long life, most manufacturers giving a guarantee of 80% power output for at least 25 years.
    - Disadvantages of Monocrystalline Solar Panels
    • The manufacturing technology is more complex, thus presenting a higher cost than other technologies;
    • Investing in monocrystalline photovoltaic panels sunk a longer period;
    • Due Czochralski process used to produce these types of panels, a large portion of the original silicon is lost;
    • Monocrystalline panels are less effective in high temperature conditions.

  • Polycrystalline solar panels are panels containing polycrystalline silicon cells. During crystallization, several crystals containing silicon atoms are uniformly oriented and thus these cells don’t have a uniform color.
    Unlike monocrystalline panels, photovoltaic polycrystalline panels are spread with a lower price, but they can function normally when temperature differences without losing a lot of efficiency.
    Polycrystalline solar panels do not go through Czochralski process, raw silica is melted and poured into a mold and cooled after it is cut into squares.

    -Avantajele panourilor solare policristaline
    • The manufacturing of polycrystalline panels is easier and cheaper, reducing the amount of waste silica;
    • Polycrystalline panels have a high efficiency at high temperature in summer days the crystal temperature can reach 70 - 800C, maximum yield being at 200C.
    -Dezavantajele panourilor solare policristaline
    • yield / efficiency panels is between 13 to 16% due to lower quality silicon, polycrystalline panels are made from waste / scrap crystals that remain from the first processing monocrystalline cells are obtained;
    • have a lower yield in the case of poor lighting;
    • A larger surface is needed to obtain the same power.
